Civilization Games Online

Civilization games are a sub genre of strategy games that involves the player building a civilization from a single starting point to dominating the in game world.

The most well known and successful civilization building game is Sid Meiers Civilization series. The series, which is now up to its 5th version, started as a more advanced fork in Sid Meiers earlier game Colonization (which just recently was re-released as a fork in the the Civilization series).

Other popular games in the genre are Age of Empires, which is a real time game as opposed to Civs turn based system, where the player builds up a medieval village and compete with other villages for resources.

The first game of this type was from The Settlers series of games. The Settlers is more like age of empires in that it is real time and the player is building a city from the building level rather than an entire civilization from a city level like in the Civilization series.

There have been many other games like these but these 3 have definitely been my favorite over the years.
